I have a range of experience working with various individuals within numerous care and educational settings, these settings include; the prison environment, colleges, schools, rehabilitation centres, hospitals and secure units a. My experiences have helped me achieve a range of skills from developing effective relationships with individuals with complex issues to developing profess relationships with professionals within the multi-disciplinary team.

In 2005 I gained a qualification in “teaching adults certificate” which enabled me to carry out teaching within both a college and prison setting for young male offenders. After working in the prison I then went on to teach the drink drive rehab course which is set by the justice system to support those who have had they or licence revoked after being caught drink driving.

In my younger days I was bank nursing on hospital wards, day units, care homes, nurseries and secure units. I came facts to face with individuals experiencing mental health issues, learning and physical disabilities.

I have also had the opportunity to support individuals experiencing substance abuse issues, not only were the individual who had the issues suffering their families also suffered so I also helped to support and offer guidance and advice to them too. During my time working within this environment I participated in numerous courses, including:

  • Safeguarding adults and children.
  • Identifying abuse.
  • MARAC training.
  • First aid in the workplace.
  • Mental health capacity training.
  • Identifying psychosis.

Whilst I worked at South Tyneside college teaching and supporting learners with learning difficulties, I also spent my weekends working with children at a play scheme within the North Tyneside area. I worked as an ‘Activities Coordinator’ where I assisted the children in play activities and day trips.  I also assisted with the general care of the children and any medications the children were prescribed.
